Shubh Muhurats For Namkaran

Shubh Muhurats For Namkaran

After a baby's birth, people decide an auspicious time and date to choose a newborn's name and this ritual is called Baby Namkaran sanskar. "Namakarana" is a ritual in Vedic culture that is carried out by us to choose a newborn's name using conventional procedures and following astrological naming conventions. It is one of the most important and auspicious rituals in which the family always gathers after the stresses of labor and delivery to celebrate the birth of a child in this typically joyful namkaran vidhi.

Process of Namkaran sanskar step-by-step

  • In the presence of the pujari, the ceremony starts with pooja, hawan and mantra recitation. All these rituals happen in the Shubh Muhurat and date.
  • With invocation to the Dev and Devi, Agni, the deity of fire, the cosmos, and the spirits of the forefathers, the poojari conducts the ceremony.
  • A silver “thali” is used in this ceremony and rice is spread all over it. While invoking Dev’s name, the father of the baby draws the chosen name of the baby on the rice with a gold (any pure metal if gold is not available or wooden stick) stick.
  • Then the father of the baby says the mantra and speaks their title four times into the child’s right ear.
  • Later, every family member present starts repeating a few words after the Pujari.
  • The rite concludes with a baby namkaran function feast done in the presents of friends and relatives accompanied by the elders' blessing.
  • The family purohit typically provides the child's zodiac sign and does chatti pooja for the new born baby during this ritual.
